Wanted to get back in to simpler times of motoring with a now ‘modern classic’ era of cars. Nothing that could be plugged in for a diagnostic…

My first car was a Peugeot 205 and had found memories of that time. So while looking I came across this tidy Peugeot 309 in 2022, now she is fondly dubbed Cherry 🍒 by the kids.  Found some points of interest in the 309, as the first Peugeot to be built in England at the Ryton Coventry Plant and that is was never originally meant to be a Peugeot at all but in fact a Talbot Arizona.  (Mine is fitted with the legacy OHV Simca engine – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simca_Poissy_engine )

Now very much my favourite hobby from general maintenance to modernising parts for greater reliability and drivability.  Always a nice reaction from people whenever out and about in her, something I’m sure you guys also receive in your own classics either as daily drivers or special occasions. Lots of conversations about the car and their own car history.

As the son of a mechanic / panel beater, I’ve always loved being around cars in general (this now excludes Dacia 🥱) and shared an interest of mechanical works with my dad.  Always worked on my own vehicles… but now a days who likes having to diagnose a problem with a computer?!

Look forward to meeting up with fellow car enthusiasts the NWCC members and being at some more car shows with Cherry and the family.

John’s 1986 1200 SEi one year Honda Goldwing

We don’t have a Motorcycle section but, as an all inclusive club, we accept any vehicle you consider worthy of the “Classic” title.

To that end, I would like to introduce you to my, (possibly), last ever registered, 1986 Goldwing SEi.

This bike is a one year only bike for 1986 but, my bike remained in a Honda dealership for 3 years, in a crate, before it was bought by a Scottish guy and shipped over to Douglas Water, near Glasgow. The bike was registered in UK 1989, 3 years after its introduction year. The owner assembled the bike and used it for 10 year and then stored it for 5 years. In 2004 he mot’ed it and sold it to a buyer in Dumfries. The new buyer then put the bike into a barn and covered it with tarpaulins. It remained under the tarpaulin for the next 9 and a half years before I bought it in June 2023, with the same mileage it had in 1999, 20458 miles.

I then spent the next 6 months recommissioning the bike and replacing the fuel pump and all the service items and fluids. The bike is now complete and ready for the road again.John Cleaver

This in my 1957 Triumph TR3A that I bought at the Silverstone Festival Auction on Saturday 26th August 2023. This car is to replace the MGA Coupe I previously owned. This car has been fully restored to quite an exacting standard by a a gentleman who likes restoring cars as a hobby but fortunately for me, doesn’t like driving them.
